How to Check Your School Placement (CSSPS) After BECE

CSSPS stands for the Computerised School Selection and Placement System. It's how the Ghana Education Service assigns BECE candidates to Senior High School, Senior High Technical School, or TVET institutions after results are released.

If you've just checked a BECE result and are wondering what happens next, this is it. Placement, not the result itself, decides which school a student attends.

Placement comes from two things: the candidate's BECE performance, and the schools and programmes they selected at registration. It isn't a first-come, first-served queue at the checking stage. The selections were made earlier, and checking placement simply reveals what the system decided.

What you need to check placement

• The candidate's BECE index number, entered exactly as it appears on exam documents.
• The candidate's date of birth, exactly as it was registered for the exam. A mismatch here is one of the most common reasons a placement check fails, even when the index number is correct.

If you weren't automatically placed

Not being automatically placed isn't the end of the process. It means the next step is a self-placement module rather than an assigned school.

Through self-placement, eligible candidates choose from schools that still have space in their category, rather than waiting for one to be assigned. This still runs through the official CSSPS system. It's a formal part of the process, not an unofficial workaround.

Common reasons a placement check fails

1. An incorrect index number. Recheck every digit against the candidate's original exam documents rather than a note copied from memory.
2. A date of birth that doesn't match registration records. This has to match what was submitted during BECE registration, which may differ from a birth certificate.
3. Checking too early. Placement is generated after results and school selections are processed. It isn't available the moment a BECE result appears.
4. Portal congestion. Right after placement is released, the official site can slow down under heavy nationwide traffic. This resolves with time, not by repeated attempts in quick succession.

Exactly how many schools a candidate selects, specific deadlines, and category definitions can shift between placement cycles. A general guide like this one shouldn't be treated as the final word on any of them.
